Piano Sonata: World Premiere of the Definitive Version

On Sunday July 30 at 6:30 Peter de Jager will give the 'World Premiere of the Definitive Version' of my 95' Piano Sonata that I wrote here in Ballarat between 2015 and 2016. This version is about a minute longer than the one that was presented in October last year. Be warned that it is a continuous 95-minute arch: the work is effectively cast in a single movement in nine sections and there will be no break in the performance. Although it is a 'performance before an invited audience', as they say, it is primarily  an ABC recording for broadcast, so it might be better not to bring mobile phones, children, animals, Aged Ps, and so on. For this reason also, latecomers may well not be let in, sorry.

The venue is the Iwaki Auditorium, ABC Centre, 120-130 Southbank Boulevard, Melbourne, behind the Victorian Arts Centre. There will be a pre-concert talk featuring Stephen Adams from the ABC's Australian Music Unit discussing the Sonata with Peter and myself: that will begin at 5:30 (doors will open at 5:15).

Breaking news: Peter de Jager's October 2016 performance of the earlier version of the Sonata is a finalist in the Performance of the Year category in the APRA AMCOS/AMC Art Music Awards 2017.
