Luminous (2020) for vibraphone

The first Iso-étude that I wrote under COVID lockdown was a solo vibraphone piece called Luminous, and last November percussionist Zachary Wilson gave it its second airing in a concert at the University of Maryland. Zachary’s performance has an elegant clarity which was pleasingly captured in the film of the concert. The video is now viewable on the webpage for Luminous, as is also the work’s première given by John McGovern.

Also new on that page is a short analysis of Luminous that I put together for Zack. It occurred to me that it might be of broader interest, so I have posted it on a separate tab. It is not a thorough-going exegesis of the piece, but it does suggest ways it might be approached analytically should anyone wish to take it further.
